Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said….
Matthew’s account captures this as the first word that the resurrected Jesus says to the women on their way. It’s enough to give us shivers. Resurrection, never been done before, what’s the first thing said to some old friends? A simple ordinary word, that is all about them and not about him. ‘Greetings’, followed by the obligatory ‘Do not be afraid’ (because of course they were!).
