It’s a funny word, faith. Often associated with believers and religious types but, when you think about it, most of us have faith in something: faith that the chair you sit on won’t collapse (I certainly cling to this faith when I tentatively sit on a deckchair); faith that when you step out of bed, gravity will hold you to the floor; faith that you are loved by someone.
Perhaps faith is believing in something outside of yourself; something bigger; something that sustains and enriches the world and builds hope? Is faith about reaching outwards? Faith in God, for me, is about reaching towards something, reaching out of myself and discovering wonder, hope and transformation. Emmanuel. God with us.
